Mystic River
Thursday at the Library Passerini-Landi in Piacenza, in the course of the "A film to be told" I presented the film "Mystic River ".
A short insert the link to the website piacenzamagazine where there will be a summary of my speech.
I started my talk by saying "Io non ho mai potuto vedere Clint Eastwood..."
suscitando un po' di sconcerto.
In effetti è proprio vero...
It was beautiful, poignant ...
But as a gunman had a soul so sensitive ...
years after a person very dear to me gave me the book that inspired the film of Dennis Lehane, considering the book that he wanted to write.
The novel is fantastic ... is not just a thriller or detective, but a work of soundings in the human soul, where fishing can be traced all the emotions: revenge, hatred, love, respect, guilt, innocence and its violation ... everything.
The actors are extraordinary: Sean Penn and Tim Robbins (for which I have a particular fondness since the days of "The Shawshank Redemption") in the first who respectively won the Oscar as an actor and not a protagonist, but also the "policeman" Kevin Bacon.
I compared the entire movie with a tragedy of Aeschylus. The guilt lingers throughout the film, no character has a clear conscience and yet no one seems to be condemned (apart from the people who kidnap the child at the beginning Dave) ... all compressed into the same desperate and suffering humanity.
A tragedy of children (three children lured by two pedophiles, one kidnapped and tortured for four long days), which delves into the lives of an entire community silently until another murder (the daughter of one of the children survived, now adult) brings back the past, the sins of the fathers and children in a dramatic crescendo that culminates in the killing of the scapegoat and reflection over evil. Dave, the baby escaped the wolves, unable to find a normal life after the abuse, now half alive and half dead, as he himself admitted to his wife, while surprising to watch a vampire movie.
Guest of Stone, the protagonist of three grown children Jimmy, Dave and Sean "Just Ray", the victim of vengeful violence of Jimmy, who died years earlier for his hand. The real culprit turns out to be deaf-mute son, another Ray, to close the circle of a dramatic situation and no way out.
of the three women, although apparently less protagonists are silently As often happens in life. Annabeth, Jimmy's wife, Lady Macbeth modern, justifies the murderous husband in the name of love for his family.
Celeste does not believe her husband Dave and hands it to his executioner instilling doubt that both he and the murderess of her daughter.
The other, the policeman's wife, separated from him for months, it's just a voice on the phone, a silent presence of a man who lives alone and seems to work to escape the reality of a real life.
The final scene is incredible. All the players are looking for with their looks and not to mention everyone tells the truth.
Terrible gaze of the wife of Dave, the two victims of fate, looking on the bandwagon of the parade the child, now orfano, l'unico che non sorride sul carro con gli amici.
