Verdi con il Nabucco, attraverso il dramma degli Ebrei assoggettati al dominio babilonese, riporta in musica i valori del Risorgimento italiano. I temi the oppressed homeland and national are collected at the base of a primarily choral masterpiece, the culmination of which is reached by the famous "Va pensiero". Opera grand and solemn, which marks the first major popular success of the Greens, was staged in Milan in 1842.
In this new production director Jean Paul Scarpitta sees the dramatic structure as a reflection on history, rather than its illustration, and the Choir of the Jews embodies the profound bond with the transcendent. Nabucco, says Scarpitta, is a work in progress can not be considered as final. The device has become an essential stage through the use a few items on a cyclorama backdrop inspired by the biblical illustrations of Gustave Doré.
Nabucco will also become a messenger of the symbols of the Unification of Italy with a tour to St. Petersburg, March 27 at the Teatro Marijinskij, always under the baton of Riccardo Muti. ;
